Het verhaal achter dit project
Street Food MApp - Pitch from Marras Stefano on Vimeo.
The Street Food SQUARE Association ( www.streetfoodsquare.org ) aims to develop and promote best practices in trade and consumption of street food. With this aim, we carry out multidisciplinary scientific research, coordinate an international network of experts (www.streefoodglobalnetwork.net) and produce multimedia products.
Within this framework, we are developing Street Food MAPP, a smartphone application designed to promote and facilitate the sharing of information about a growing but still largely unmapped phenomenon.
The app wants to benefit street food consumers, vendors and specialists around the world.
Street Food MApp PRO is designed to support public administrations, researchers, organizations as a data collection and monitoring tool. This version includes features that allow the collection of a wide range of information about trade activities (location , time, mode), points of sale (infrastructure, tools), vendors (socio-demographic profile) and the food offered (recipes, nutritional values) .
All information collected through the PRO version are automatically saved in an online database accessible in secured form. Some of this database information – e.g. business name , photo , location , business hours, products sold - will be available to the public at large through Street Food MApp LITE.
Street Food MApp LITE is designed as a useful tool for:
- street food vendors , as a showcase to advertise their business,
- and consumers, as an interactive real-time guide, to locate and get information on characteristics and quality of points of sale and foods offered.
Vendors will have the opportunity to add information about their business , while consumers will be able to leave comments and express their opinion, as well as to indicate new points of sale.
Both versions will be available in multi-language (version 1.1 includes English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese).
Street Food MApp is currently being developed in partnership with Software Architecture Laboratory ( SAL ) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, and in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The project has the Patronage of Expo Milan 2015.
Wat maakt deze app zo uniek
- To date, there are just a few apps that aim to map street food.
- Most of them have strong limitations:
- b) they include information mostly related to fixed, takeaway shops, neglecting most of the actual street vending points, which now remain for the most part excluded from digital maps;
- a) they show information within a limited geographical radious;
- c) they are based on centralized data collections, headed by the authors of the app, which limits their geographic scope, their real-time updating, and eventually their long-term sustainability.
- Street Food Mapp wants to:
- a) create a database on a global scale,
- b) that includes information about the actual street vending points,
- c) through a decentralized, participatory, shared data collection involving public and private actors.
- To achieve this goal, the Street Food SQUARE association can count on the widest network of street food experts (academics, public officials, vendors associations, non-profit organizations) and street food fans on a global scale: the Street Food Global Network (www.streetfoodglobalnetwork.net)
